If like the rest of the world you’ve also clicked on ‘next episode’, you’ll understand the struggles of a serial binge-watcher. For hours and hours, you are invested in the lives of a motley crew of characters — in their emotions, adventures, struggles and dreams. And, just like that, it gets over. Just finished a series and now you don’t know what to live for anymore? Need some help to wade through the explosion of choices out there?

Luckily, the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards came just in time to help you brush up on your watchlist. From comedy and drama to limited series and documentaries, the Emmys highlight the best that entertainment has to offer. Now you have a ready list of great shows to binge watch, but where can you watch them, especially here in India?

A good place to start is to look for a streaming service that hosts the maximum number of winners. With this yardstick, Hotstar Premium emerges as an obvious choice — here, you can stream eight popular shows that swept a total of 44 Emmys this year across the Creative and Main categories. We’ve done all the hard work for you and made a list for you to start binge-watching immediately:

Chernobyl

You’ve probably heard about Chernobyl’s explicit depiction of horror, chaos and despair, and despite that you may want to check it out. The show was such a hit that the Chernobyl area has seen a huge increase in tourist footfall this year. If you’re looking for an even more immersive experience, take notes from the companion podcast that takes you behind-the-scenes; exploring the writing and creative decisions that went into each episode.

Killing Eve

If Sandra Oh isn’t a good enough reason, Jodie Comer’s unexpected win should make you take notice. Killing Eve has everything you didn’t know you needed — a desk-bound MI5 operative (Sandra Oh), a beautiful assassin (Comer) and a cat-and-mouse game entangled with mutual obsession. It is based on a series of novellas called Codename Villanelle, which were adapted to screen by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (of Fleabag fame) in the first season. The show turns all sacred thriller tropes on their head and is a must-watch, especially if you’re looking for something refreshing.

Pose

Billy Porter has won almost all awards he has been nominated for including a Grammy, Tony and Outer Critic’s Circle award, along with people’s hearts for the tuxedo-gown he wore at the Oscars. Now, with his Emmy win, he’s one step closer to bagging the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards winner) status. He plays Pray Tell, a ballroom mentor, in Pose which follows New York’s underground ballroom culture in the 1980s. Pose is what you should turn to if you are looking for characters to love and root for. There’s an abundance of flair, fishnet stockings, queer extravaganza, grand ‘80s fashion and an existential threat from the HIV scare.

Barry

This is the second time in a row that Bill Hader has won an Emmy for portraying a hitman who decides to become an actor in this dark comedy. It may surprise you to know that Barry’s anxiety about killing is actually a giant metaphor for Hader’s time at Saturday Night Live, where he performed live for eight years while battling stage fright. Turn to Barry if the doctor prescribed deep belly laughter — its depiction of trust issues, crippling paranoia and emotional outbursts will leave you in splits.

Succession

Succession is about a never-ending battle of power and prestige in the dysfunctional Logan family which controls the world’s largest media conglomerate. This satirical dramedy — said to be inspired by real people such as Rupert Murdoch and his family — will make you laugh out loud in unexpected places. If a certain Roman Roy in the show looks familiar, it’s because you’ve probably seen him, or at least his brother, before. Kieran Culkin is a former child star who appeared in the beloved Home Alone movies alongside his brother Macaulay Culkin.

Fosse/Verdon

Michelle Williams has won her first Emmy for her role as Gwen Verdon in this eight-episode limited series. Fosse/Verdon takes you behind the scenes of Broadway as it explores the romantic and creative partnership between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon — the pair that changed American entertainment. Bob Fosse, for example, pioneered some classic dance moves — such as pelvic thrusts, tilted hats, splayed hands, and paused half-steps — which you would recognise from Michael Jackson’s dance style, among others.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

With John Oliver’s ridiculous humour, pitiless lampooning of serious issues and air-tight comic timing, this late-night news satire programme entertains as much as it informs. It has, in fact, been so effective in raising awareness of important issues that now there’s a term for its impact on the real world — The John Oliver Effect.

With Hotstar Premium, you can finally start ticking off your list of Emmy-winning shows to watch.
